The Aluminum frame features “Enhanced Performance Geometry” What does that mean?

With its super-strong 7005 aluminum alloy frame, you’ve got the stability and durability to travel long and far.

What’s really outstanding about the 2016 Diamondback is that the frame is designed to be more upright and less fatiguing on the body. The 2016 Diamondback Century 2 is hand-built, and is shipped ready to ride. This is important because it means that there’s far less assembly required when your bike arrives.

Far too many buyers and sellers overlook this important element. And yet it could take hours – or days – to properly assemble everything. That’s not the case here. You could be up and riding in as little as 30 to 40 minutes.

All you have to do is connect the front wheel, install the seat, and the pedals. It’s easy to work and only requires basic tools. The brakes and derailleurs are adjusted. But you’ll need to inflate the tires before jumping on.

It’s always a good idea to take your bike to the local bike shop for them to check it over and to tune it up to make sure everything is set up perfectly. It just makes life so much easier.

You’re getting a quality built bike with top brand-name components. More expensive components don’t necessarily perform any better. They simply get lighter once you go above this level.

Designed in the similar fashion to traditional road bikes, the 2016 Diamondback Century is an endurance road bike that places a little more emphasis on rider comfort. With its relaxed geometry and slightly upright frame. It’s made to be easy to ride for long distances. It’s also remarkably lightweight.

The handlebar is closer to the seat height, as opposed to traditional bikes. This allows for a slightly more upright riding position, which is more comfortable over the long haul.

Aluminum provides an inexpensive and light option for frames. It’s also remarkably strong. It’s this strength to weight ratio that makes it an excellent option for bike frames. Oh and, the frame on the Diamondback is supplied with a beautiful finish. With it’s multiple advantages, aluminum has become one of the more popular materials used on quality bikes these days.

But the sheer strength of aluminum causes it to be a little stiff and this can be felt over rougher terrain. However, the Diamondback provides a carbon fiber fork, which helps alleviate some of the impacts of a rough ride, with its better absorption capabilities. This allows for a more responsive, efficient and less bumpy ride.

While carbon fiber is great to use on the entire frame, aluminum is a far more inexpensive option. Combining aluminum with carbon fiber provides the best of both worlds – an excellent balance between strength and flexibility at a reasonable cost.

With two chain rings and 22- speeds, you can chug along across virtually any terrain, without much difficulty. Gearing capability is more than adequate for most rides. And shifting is smooth and reliable. This includes everything, but those really long climbs up the steepest of hills.

Most users consider the Diamondback to be a great bike that’s very comfortable and at this price point – it’s basically unbeatable in all it offers. Chances are, you won’t find a bike of this quality with hydraulic disc brakes for less than $2000.

Comfort in the Seat:

The seat is said to be as good as a top quality aftermarket saddle. Since this is a road bike designed for distance, the comfort of the seat is a critical element.

Typically, the saddle is the first thing experienced buyers replace on a bike. But you probably won’t have to do that with the Diamondback Century 2, since most buyers love the seat.

The saddle itself is among the best you can get, in terms of comfort. The manufacturer seems to have found the right combination of padded comfort and flexibility, without being too narrow or too wide. It features graceful curves from front to back doesn’t cause any discomfort or hotspots.

You’ll have no problem tackling trips of 20,30 or even 50 miles long. But you may find it a bit of a challenge to go up those long inclines. It’s nothing you can’t handle on this bike – but it will get your heart pumping faster.

Shifting gears is light, precise and smooth thanks in part to the design of the derailleur and the polymer-coated shift cables. There’s no noise from the chain in any gear, something you often notice on lesser bikes.

When you’ve got top quality components such as those Shimano provides, you know that you’re going to get optimum performance and safety over the long-haul.

Speaking of safety, these quality hydraulic brakes deliver powerful control with consistent stopping power at less effort. Brakes are important on any bike and even more so, on a road bike. Fortunately, the brakes supplied with the 2016 Diamondback are sensitive and responsive. They always seem to function well in any conditions.

This bike is easy to put together. Pretty much anyone can do it. But it’s always recommended that the final tuning is done by a professional. This makes a difference.

Sure, it will cost you slightly more to take your bike to a nearby shop and have them set everything up just right. But it will provide tremendous peace of mind, knowing that your bike has been tuned up by a real professional.

There’s no doubt that this is a quality bike. Shimano parts are a huge asset, making the entire package a sound investment.

But there have been some complaints raised. Even though it arrives 90% assembled, one reviewer said that needing to build the bike before using it was a bit of a hassle. If you’re not comfortable doing even the basic assembly that’s required, don’t hesitate to take the carton all to your nearest bike shop. They’d be happy to do it for you – for a fee, of course.

The seat post has been cited by experienced riders as a possible weakness. So you might want to invest in an aftermarket carbon fiber seat post. It will cost you a little bit more money. But it’s lighter and more flexible than the aluminum post provided.

Overall, this is a quality bike for an entry-level cyclist. It’s fast, reasonably light, and has excellent components. The frame of the bike is stiff enough to provide consistent performance and handling on any type of road without compromising the riding experience.

Tires provided are slightly wider than usual, providing more contact with the road and making it excellent on unpaved and rough surfaces.

One reviewer commented said this “I enjoy riding this bike almost as much as my $6000 bike.”

The 2016 Diamondback is engineered for the rider who seeks to travel distances and rack up miles. It combines the strength and affordability of aluminum with the superior performance and flexibility of carbon fiber. The relaxed design geometry is easy on the neck and back.

Over a variety of road surfaces, you’ll find that the Diamondback performs remarkably well and at surprisingly good speeds. It has a comfortable feel to it, and it’s capable of climbing hills without much of a problem at all.

What you’ll find is that due to its long wheelbase this bike easily absorbs road vibration, providing a smoother ride. Even gravel stony areas are not an issue for this bike.

While it may not be quite on par with a full carbon fiber frame bike, this one is still an excellent ride. One of the things you’ll notice right away is that it has stability and handles quite well, even on uneven surfaces. It’s responsive on gravel, enough to help you avoid minor potholes at the last minute.

Handling stability, superior braking, and overall comfort make this an excellent option. Added features like the Ultegra rear derailleur, bottom bracket system and the TRP hydraulic system are things you would normally expect to find on much more expensive bikes.

The Century 2 is available from several retailers, but I always find that Amazon often has the best online price’s these days. This nearly always beats anything you can get at a regular bike store. Couple that with free shipping and excellent customer service and you will be hard pushed to get a better deal.
